Counselling for Anxiety
Online counselling for anxiety, worry, panic and stress — with Lisa Brathwaite, a BACP-registered counsellor working with adults across the UK.
What does anxiety look like?
Anxiety is more than worry. It can sit in the body as a racing heart, tight chest, shallow breathing, or a constant feeling of being on edge. It can sit in the mind as relentless overthinking, catastrophising, or struggling to switch off. For some people it is loud and obvious; for others it hums quietly underneath everything else.
Anxiety becomes a problem when it stops you doing things that matter to you, affects your sleep, or makes daily life feel exhausting. You do not have to be in crisis to seek support — anxiety responds well to early intervention.
Signs counselling for anxiety might help
Counselling can support a wide range of anxiety experiences. People often come to me when they recognise some of the following:
- •Constant worrying that feels out of proportion to the situation
- •Racing thoughts that make it hard to relax or sleep
- •Physical symptoms — heart racing, tight chest, restlessness, fatigue
- •Avoiding situations, people or places that trigger anxious feelings
- •Panic attacks, including ones that seem to come out of nowhere
- •Social anxiety, performance anxiety, or fear of being judged
- •Health anxiety or persistent worry about something bad happening
- •Feeling on edge most of the time, without being sure why
How counselling helps with anxiety
Anxiety often comes from somewhere — old patterns, past experiences, current pressures, the meaning we attach to things. Counselling gives you space to slow down and explore what is happening underneath the symptoms, rather than just fighting the symptoms themselves.
Over time, you begin to understand your anxiety, not be afraid of it. You learn what triggers it for you specifically, what soothes it, and how to respond rather than react. Many clients describe feeling more able to choose how they live, rather than being driven by anxiety.
We work at your pace. There is no checklist to get through — just a safe relationship in which you can think out loud, be heard, and make sense of things.
My approach
I am a BACP-registered counsellor with experience supporting clients through anxiety in its many forms. My approach is integrative — I draw on Person-Centred therapy, Transactional Analysis, Gestalt and Psychodynamic ideas, adapting to what you need.
Some clients want to focus on practical strategies; others want to understand where their anxiety came from. We can do both. What stays constant is a warm, non-judgmental space where you can be exactly as you are.
What to expect from your first session
Your first session is a gentle introduction. You can share as much or as little as feels comfortable, and I will ask some questions to understand what is bringing you to therapy. We will go over how sessions work and confidentiality.
Before that, you can book a free 20-minute consultation to ask any questions and see how it feels to talk. Sessions are £40 per hour, delivered online by video.
