Your Journey

What to Expect in Your First Session

Starting counselling can feel like a big step, and it's completely normal to feel a little unsure about what to expect. The first session is a gentle introduction — a space for you to begin sharing what's been going on for you, at your own pace.

We'll talk about what has brought you to counselling and what you might hope to get from it. There's no pressure to explain everything perfectly or go into detail before you're ready. You're free to share as much or as little as feels comfortable.

I may ask some questions to better understand your situation, your background, and any support you've had before. This helps me get a clearer picture of how best to support you. We'll also go over practical things like confidentiality, how sessions work, and answer any questions you might have.

Most importantly, the first session is an opportunity for you to get a sense of how it feels to work together. Building trust takes time, and this is simply the beginning.
