Counselling for Life Transitions
Online counselling for change, new chapters and the uncertainty that comes with them — with Lisa Brathwaite, a BACP-registered counsellor working with adults across the UK.
When life changes shake the ground beneath you
Life transitions are the turning points — a new job or the loss of one, becoming a parent, a relationship beginning or ending, moving, retirement, children leaving home, a health change, or simply reaching a stage where the old way of living no longer fits.
Even changes we choose can leave us feeling unmoored. Transitions ask us to let go of a familiar version of life, and of ourselves, before the next one has taken shape. That in-between place can bring anxiety, low mood, grief, or a quiet question of 'who am I now?'
Signs counselling might help
People often come to me during a transition when they notice:
- •Feeling unsettled, anxious or low since things changed
- •A loss of identity or purpose — not feeling like yourself
- •Being stuck between an old life and a new one
- •Grieving something, even if others see the change as positive
- •Difficulty making a decision, or fear of making the wrong one
- •Questioning your direction, values or what you really want
- •Feeling alone in a change that others do not seem to understand
- •A sense that something needs to shift, but not knowing what
How counselling helps through transitions
Transitions are easier to weather when you have somewhere to think them through. Counselling gives you that space — to feel what you are feeling, to grieve what is ending, and to make sense of who you are becoming.
Together we explore what the change means to you, what it is stirring up, and what matters as you move forward. Rather than rushing you toward a decision, I help you find your own footing, so the next chapter is shaped by your values rather than by fear or pressure.
Many people find that a transition, once supported, becomes not just something to survive but a genuine opportunity to grow.
My approach
I am a BACP-registered counsellor with an integrative approach — Person-Centred therapy, Transactional Analysis, Gestalt and Psychodynamic ideas. I adapt to what you need, whether that is space to process, or help getting clear on a direction.
There is no agenda and no right answer you are supposed to reach. The space is warm, confidential and non-judgmental, and we move at your pace.
What to expect from your first session
Your first session is a gentle introduction. You can share as much or as little as feels comfortable, and I will ask some questions to understand what is bringing you to counselling. We will cover how sessions work and confidentiality.
Beforehand, you can book a free 20-minute consultation to ask questions and see how it feels to talk. Sessions are £40 per hour, delivered online by video.
